Read moreThis is an advance course covering detailed procedure of project planning using MS Project as a tool. A hands-on civil engineering project program is developed and step by step process is explained for the student to learn how to plan, analyse, and manage projects. Students will witness state-of-the-art methodologies to develop the project program. The first module provides a detailed process of moving a project forward and backwards. It’s very common that project start date moves and it’s very important to know how to move the project. The course also provides details of setting the baseline of the program. This will help to monitor the project program as the project progresses. The second module provides a complete process of setting the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). The WBS is like an index page of a book and its very useful to develop WBS for a project especially if the project programme is lengthy and complex. The third module provides a detailed process of assigning project resources to each activity along with hours for each resource. The module then explains the process to determine the overall project cost as well as the breakup of cost for each task and sub-tasks. This process helps Project managers to optimise overall project costs for any bidding or tender activity. The fourth module covers the complete process of updating tasks. There are three ways to update the tasks of a project and all three ways are explained with its unique advantages. The module also covers the process of updating a project before comparing it with the baseline. The fifth module covers the detailed process of analysing critical path activities and associated features. This will help the project manager to take extra care of critical activities so that project doesn’t slip and become a loss-making project. The sixth module provides a detailed process of checking task slippage from the baseline and how it impacts the project programme duration. The seventh module provides details of Calendar and Network Diagram view. These views are very easy to understand and provide clear visibility to team members about their activities, even they are not efficient to understand giant chart view of a project program. The eighth module provides a detailed process of setting a Timeline view of a project. It provides a summary chart of the project so its very hands to share with the project team and client for progress meeting and monitoring. The ninth module provides details of printing various project report such project report, project cost, project assignments, project workload and also customised way to develop project reports.
Read moreBridge Engineering is the key discipline branching out from civil engineering and it involves the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of bridges to ensure safe and effective transportation of vehicles, people and goods. The course modules provide a high-level overview of Bridge engineering and cover details like Element of Bridges, Type of Bridges, Siting of Bridges, Analysis of Bridge Structure, Influence Line Diagram, Design of Deck Slab, Design of T Girder, etc. Module 1: Bridge Engineering and Design The first module starts with Siting Criteria of the bridge of details out various reasons to select a particular location as a preferred site for bridge against many other locations. It shows a flow chart to filter out the less feasible locations and drill down to the preferred site location. The module also covers details of various types of bridges and key reasons to select one type of bridge over the others. Module 2: Bridge Elements The second module details the elements of the Bridges. The Element of Bridges is an exhaustive list, so Superstructure, Expansion Joints, Bearings are covered in the second module and the remaining elements are covered next module. Module 3: Bridge Elements The third module covers the remaining elements of the Bridges. Sub-structure, Foundation and secondary elements are covered in this module. Module 4: Steps of Bridge Design The fourth module covers Hydraulics analysis of river flow is discussed to calculate the maximum discharge of river flow. Thereafter, the loading of parameters of the bridge deck and girders are discussed. The module also covers the Finite Element Analysis. The objective of Finite Element Analysis is to find a localized failure, in the bridge due to a vehicular impact and how detailed modelling can help to determine all possible failures.
Read moreA Project is an undertaking, carried out individually or collectively as a team to achieve a goal. Every company or firm carry out projects activities every day either properly or casually. Every project requires detailed project planning in order to run the project more effectively and efficiently. Project planning provides organizations with a framework for scoping projects, sequencing activities, utilizing resources, and minimizing risks. This is a basic course covering key concepts of project planning using MS Project as a tool. A hands-on civil engineering project program is developed and step by step process is explained for the student to learn how to plan, analyse, and manage projects. Students will witness state-of-the-art methodologies to develop the project program. In the first module, students will learn about the following topics -Launching MS Project, start-up window, quick access toolbar, Ribbons and Menu, Options settings, etc. The second module provides a quick process to develop a civil engineering project with key design tasks. The course then explains the key parameters of a task and how one task is linked with another task. Please click to see the Preview of the Course. In the third module, students will learn task dependencies. How the function like start to start or start to finish etc works. The course also provides details of task constraint in civil engineering project environment and how to incorporate that in the project program. The fourth module provides a detailed process of sub-task development and how to link those sub-tasks within the main task. The course develops a situation where a sub-task comes with a constraint and explain the process to deal with the constraint without impacting the project duration. The project belongs to a civil engineering environment so it would be very useful for a student to correlate it with real-time project scenarios. The fifth module provides a detailed process of splitting a task. This is extremely critical for a task if it needs to be delivered in phases due to interlinking with other tasks. The course also provides a process of task formatting to make it unique against other tasks to easily identify it. The sixth module details out the meaning of free slack in the program and its advantage. The module explains the process of how to utilise free slack in a project program to effectively add any new task without affecting the overall duration of the project. The seventh module details the process of resource allocation. In this module, resources are assigned for a particular task of a civil engineering project and team members of different grades are assigned to carry out a task. The process will assist the student to understand how to assign a time frame to all team members to complete a task. The eighth module provides a detailed process of optimising resources. By doing this, key members of the team could be free up for carrying out another project. This would help the project team to efficiently utilize limited resources at any given time.
